Content Filter Property Sets Utility

What does the Content Filter Property Sets Utility do?
This utility allows you to configure the Web content you want to give to your users and other options relating to web content access.

Why should I use this Utility?
Use this utility to define different content for your users. For example, you may want to allow access to Webmail sites for teachers, but not students. You would create two different Content Filter Property Sets: One for teachers with Forums Webmail category allowed; and one for Students with Forums Webmail blocked.

How do I do it?
Follow these steps to create a new Content Filter Property Set or to modify an existing one:

1. If creating a new Set, click the 'Create a new set' link. If modifying an existing Set, select it from the pulldown and proceed to #3.
2. Name it in the field provided (e.g., Teacher Content Set).
3. Enable your options and block categories.
4. Click the 'Save Settings' link.

The following explains the various options and links in the utility:

• Create a New Set - Click on this link to create a new Set. You can combine it with the Set Pulldown to create a new set based on an existing one.
• Cancel - Click on this link to stop creating a new Set and restart.
• Set Pulldown - Click on the Set Pulldown to view or modify and existing Set, or create a new Set based on an existing one.
• Delete - Click on this link to delete the currently specified set. Use this option with care--TTC provides a warning when you attempt to use it.
• Save Settings - Click on the Save Settings link to save a new Set or save changes to an existing Set.

General - The General section is where you configure the behavior of the Content Filter.

• Block search engine keywords by category - Enable this option if you want TTC to block select search engine keywords. By default, the keyword list is empty; you must populate the list for this option to work.
• Block unknown URLs - Enable this option if you want to block access to web sites not in TTC Content Database.
• Block Google image thumbnails by category - Enable this option if you want TTC to block Google images from inappropriate sources.
• Force safe searches - Enable this option if you want TTC to force safe searches on sites that support this ability.
• Block non-HTTP traffic to blocked IP addresses - Enable this option if you want TTC to block other types of traffic (i.e. FTP, HTTPS) to destinations in Blocked Categories.
• Block non-HTTP traffic to unknown IP addresses - Enable this option if you want TTC to block other types of traffic (i.e. FTP, HTTPS) to destinations in not in TTC's Content Database. Enabling this should stop access to home-based proxy sites, but may over-block legitimate traffic.
• Authentication lifetime timeout - This option controls the amount of time an authenticated user has until he must re-authenticate.
• Authentication idle timeout - This option controls the amount of time TTC displays the authentication page.

Blocked Page Options - The Blocked Page Options section is where you configure how your end-users interact with TTC's Blocked Page.

• Blocked website review option:
• Do not allow users to submit blocked websites for review - Enable this option if you do not want users to request review of blocked websites.
• Allow without prompting for e-mail address or reason - Enable this option if you want to allow users to request review of blocked websites.
• Prompt for email address and reason but do not require - Enable this option if you want to let users request review of blocked websites and optionally give a contact e-mail address and reason.
• Require email address and reason - Enable this option if you want to let users request review of blocked websites but require they give a contact e-mail address and reason.
• Override options:
• Enable workstation override - Enable this option if you want to allow overrides of a blocked page for this set. Select one of the following options configure the scope of the override and enable specific category overrides below.
• Maximum duration - This option sets the per override timer. When this amount of time expires, the end-user must re-override the block page.
• Allow domain override - Enable this option if you want to allow the user to override only the specific domain blocked.
• Allow category override - Enable this option if you want to allow the user to override the entire category blocked. The overriding end-user can browse all domains within the specified category.
• Allow full bypass override - Enable this option if you want to allow the user to override the Content Filter completely. The overriding end-user can browse all domains in all categories.

Allowed & Blocked Website URLs - This section allows you to configure URLs that are always allowed or always blocked for this Content Filter Property Set. Entering URLs here globally overrides the Content Filter.

• Allowed - Enter a URL to always Allow. You can embed asterisks within the URL to wildcard the entry.
• Blocked - Enter a URL to always Block. You can embed asterisks within the URL to wildcard the entry.
• Blocked Files Extension Set Pulldown - Use this option to globally configure a blocked file extension set for all categories.

Custom/Normally Blocked/Normally Allowed Categories - This section is where you Allow or Block the web content for this Content Filter Property Set.

• Allow All - Click on the Allow All link to allow (not Block) all categories in the specified section.
• Block All - Click on the Block All link to block all categories in the specified section.
• Name - This column shows category name.
• Description - This column shows category description.
• Block? - Enable this option to block the specified category.
• Allow Override? - Enable this option to allow overrides to the specified category.
• Blocked File Extension Set - This column shows the file size.
